Back to Education Initiative (BTEI)
The Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) provides part-time education programmes to anyone over the age of 16 years who has left full-time education. The aim of this initiative is to give people an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. Priority will be given to those who have less than upper second level education.
Courses are free to holders of, or dependants of persons with, Medical Cards, Unemployment payments, Means-tested Welfare payments, or Family Income Supplement. Other unwaged adults with less than Leaving Cert education pay 30% of the tuition fees. All other students pay the full tuition costs.
Courses are offered on a part-time basis, in the mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Classes are held in a variety of venues throughout the city.
Courses on offer include English and Maths at Junior and Leaving Cert level, Computing at introductory and ECDL level, Childcare at Level 1 and 2, and ESOL classes for Non-Nationals.
